From Senator Dylan Roberts:
Hello, and Happy New Year!
In my first newsletter since the 2024 election - an election that left some very happy and others very concerned - there is much to reflect on from 2024 and look ahead to in 2025. Here in Colorado, I am gratified that our state is continuing to lead on important issues and our region and voting in a group of qualified, committed, bipartisan-minded state legislators. I look forward to working with my SD8-area counterparts in the House: Speaker Julie McCluskie (Grand, Jackson, Summit), Representative Meghan Lukens (Eagle, Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt), Representative Elizabeth Velasco (Garfield), and Representative-elect Lesley Smith (Clear Creek, Gilpin) to serve Senate District 8 - along with colleagues from across the state on both sides of the aisle in the Senate.
In this year's election, several key issues were brought to the ballot in Colorado. I personally helped introduce Proposition JJ, which will allow the state to keep even more sports betting revenue and use it for water projects. This revenue has already resulted in unprecedented funding going toward water in the state, including a large commitment toward purchasing the Shoshone water right on the Colorado River. With the funding approved by voters, Colorado will continue to be at the forefront of smart water policy.
Now we turn to preparing for the 2025 Legislative Session, which begins on January 8th! Read on for some updates on my committee assignments for the upcoming general assembly, some bill ideas I've been working on, and updates from across SD8. I will stay in touch as we get started at the Capitol in January!
