Activism is the antidote for despair. Local activism empowers the activists and builds a better, more responsive community.
It has taken time and space to make sense of the Presidential election. The result was unexpected, and now that the Nation is seeing the sad spectacle of the Project 2025-influenced Cabinet coming together, Democrats in Clear Creek County are taking time to put the 2024 election into context. We encourage everyone to take the time they need to make sense of what has happened. Our work is just beginning, and we will need your help.
Perhaps some perspective is helpful. Turnout was high. In Colorado, eighty percent of registered voters cast ballots, as did eighty-two percent of registered voters in Clear Creek County. Twenty-six new voters registered as Democrats, ten new voters registered as Republicans, and forty new voters registered as Unaffiliated.
Democrats won the Presidential Election in Colorado, with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz receiving fifty-four percent of the vote. In Clear Creek County, they received fifty-seven percent of the vote.
Democrats swept all county and district elections in Clear Creek County:
Electing Rebecca Lloyd and Jodie Hartman-Ball to the Clear Creek County Commission.
Reelecting Joe Neguse to the House of Representatives.
Electing Lesley Smith to Colorado District 49.
Electing Eliott Hood as the University of Colorado Regents At-Large.
Passing Clear Creek County Library Ballot Issue 6A.
Passing Clear Creek County Ballor Issue 1A.
In addition, Clear Creek voters supported Constitutional Amendment J, which repealed the definition of marriage in the Colorado Constitution, and Amendment 79, which placed the right to abortion into the Colorado Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to determine their health care and family planning decisions.
The Clear Creek County Democratic party conducted phone calls and made visits to over two thousand voters in Clear Creek County. Throughout the election season, Clear Creek Democrats executed a detailed voter outreach plan that helped our neighbors understand what was at stake in this election and helped them submit their ballots.
The success of the Clear Creek Democratic Party could not change the way the rest of the Nation voted, even though Democrats in Clear Creek County participated in National Democratic fundraising and phone banking campaigns. The differences between the local results and the national results can lead one to despair and hopelessness.
Activism is the antidote for despair. Local activism empowers the activists and builds a better, more responsive community. Activism takes courage and focus, but luckily, Clear Creek County has a community ready to face the challenges ahead of us. Now is not the time to disengage. Now is the time to reaffirm our commitment to this Nation. So, come join us.

While the Democratic Party did not win the Presidency, the scope of the loss was not as sweeping as in 1984 or 2004, and Democrats were able to recover from those losses.
We, as Democrats, are where we always are, standing in the light, ready to work to fulfill the promise of our Nation, where all men and women have equal rights and opportunities. The work begins now. When you are ready, you will find an open hand ready to grasp yours, and we will stand together.
